It is an absolute thrill to announce yet another new Latitudes session peeking behind the veil. Here at Southern, we'd like to welcome Bobby Krlic (aka The Haxan Cloak) to our delightfully fascinating series with his storming half hour of electronica soundscapes. Just coming off the back of his debut album on Aurora Borealis and recent signing to Tri-Angle Records, The Haxan Cloak has quite gracefully berried himself deep into the networks of unsettling electronic music. The name is murmured on a daily basis, his LP played meticulously again and again, and anything left to see is leaving people in a haze of wonder.
As a personal account, I shamefully only heard of The Haxan Cloak with the news of his imminent Latitudes activity, here at Southern. Soon after was a fleeting greeting, followed by the usual meandering research on the world wide web. But it was going to a live show of Bobby's, experiencing his aurally aesthetic rumble-scapes into my own ears and eyes that would make the revelatory impact. I found myself standing dead still, staring only at the retina searing strobe. Instantly immersed into some sort of subsonic crescendo, revealing a myriad of texturally rich detail, but never without leaving the space and breadth of the sound behind. I felt like I was alone: hypnotised and humbled by a tangible thrill of musical exploit. As the music faded and came to a close, I fell back into normality, speechless, in a blur of marvel at the overwhelming event.
Then, days later, I was yet again thrown back into blissful gaiety: The Haxan Cloak Latitudes session wafted through the office, soundtracking our very own 'Koyaanisqatsi'. This release, in essence was Bobby live, but think I like to think of it as 'The Haxan Cloak 2.0'.
Curiously titled 'The Men Parted The Sea To Devour The Water', the session will be available on 9th July as a limited run of 700 180g white vinyl and 500 CDs, both with Bobby's original foil-stamped artwork, and all hand numbered.
We also have a special bundle available from our web shop if you act quickly - get a t-shirt and your choice of LP or CD.
Now available for pre-order in our web shop, and if you ask me, I'd get two; one to play to death, the other to resurrect your aural pleasures after the first passes away.
