He is
the son of a writer and an ecologist. In the
early '80s
he trained and performed as a concert violist in Sydney, retiring to spend
six years on an ashram in the remote region of New South Wales. He began
composing in the '90s at the University of Adelaide, and was then awarded
a Fulbright scholarship to study at the world renowned Yale School of Music.
Bryce Dessner is a member of The National, the New York based purveyors
of sweet rock music, who also released their
debut album on Brassland. Clog's
first recorded output, "Thom's
Night Out",
met with unanimous critical accolades when it
was released in the United States in 2001. It
garnered comparisons to artists as diverse as
Arvo Part, Sigur Ros, and Godspeed You Black
Emperor! The Wire celebrated its "eerie,
looping folk melodies, delicately bowed and struck
strings [and] beautiful 'lost at sea' effect".
Their
second record, "Lullaby
for Sue", will
be released on Brassland in May 2003. Clogs plan
to tour Europe in May and September 2003 in support
of the record. The May tour kicks off with a
gig at the Brighton Festival alongside artists
such as Mum, Dirty Three, and Brian Eno. It's
distinguished company, but Clogs deserve it.
