Dan, John and Alex have known each other since their days in Herbert Hoover Junior High in Potomac, MD., a few minutes outside of Washington D.C. They played in a band together under various names with bassist Ben Winters and Josh Hecht starting in may of 1990 (when they were all around 13 years of age). They released two demo tapes and played countless embarassing shows before recording their debut 7", Custom Cool, at WGNS Studios (then located in Arlington, VA.) in Dec. of 93 and releasing it in April of '94 on their own label, Shute Records. Josh was replaced a week before the recording by Rob Anthony, a fellow student at Winston Churchill High School. They played numerous shows in the D.C. area and finally began to tour, going as far west as Ohio.

They left for college in August of '94, but returned to record another 7", The Conservation Of Momentum, at WGNS (now located in D.C.) in Dec. of 94. It came out in August '95 and was a split release between Shute and Dischord Records. A week or so prior to the release of the 7", Ben quit and Scott joined on in time for their week long midwest tour, which consisted of only three shows, but still put 3000 miles on their cars. They went off to school again, but played more shows throughout the fall and recorded their first full-length, Audio Flame Kit, at WGNS in Jan. '96. Following the CD's release last summer the band toured the states.
