New York City i kept this photo on my wall at work. I couldn't figure out what it was that I liked about it. One day this summer, I took a stack of half frame photos to NYC and while hanging otu with Aaron was intrigued by these photos and asked where I took them. He noticed that in the left frame, META is Margaret's tag, and in the right frame, Twist's tag can be found. Ironic because, it turns out, Margaret and Twist are getting married this year. Taken 6-96 and rediscovered 7-99. |

Athens, Georgia A terrazzo floor and a steel door are part of the new additions to my friend's house. The pink roses, which bloom six weeks earlier in Georgia than in DC, were in his backyard. I photographed these to show him what he missed while he was out of town and took them home with me to DC. 4-97 |

Orange
Cake I spent a long weekend right outside Asheville, North Carolina learning straw-bale house construction by day and sleeping in a rain-filled tent by night. On the way home to Washington DC, I stopped in Galax, a town known for it's mountain music festival. At 8AM all I found was a whole bunch of antique stores selling beenie babies, one shop selling fiddles (with a new neon sign), a vacant law office wih wood paneling and an abandoned water cooler, people riding a skateboard ramp provided by the city, a store in an alley that offered money-wiring services to Central America, a plywood factory operating at full-steam, and two diners. I chose the one outside of town. Here,we have an orange cake with vanilla icing and my coffee. 8-98 |

Interstate
94 These grain storage units were photographed out the sunroof of our "driveaway" car. They were the only structures along the highway for hours. Having just received a speeding ticket, we were racing toward Montana, one of the only states that has no speed limit. 4-99 |
