"Everybody double parking on the dance floor..." croons singer Calvin
Johnson (Beat Happening, Halo Benders) with more soul and lower decibels
than Barry White. Dub Narcotic Sound System renders the boot scootin'
boogie completely limp. It's music by which to groove, swing, chill and
most importantly, shake your booty! Such a plethora of soul could only
be recorded in one place: Memphis Tennessee USA! Soul recording legend
William Brown (Al Green, Prince, Bar Kays to name a few) produced "Ridin
Shotgun" to up the dose of soul a bit more!
Dub Narcotic Sound System is a house band of the Stax/Volt variety, and
accordingly features a number of revolving key instrumentalists.
Memebers of The Spinanes, Tiger Trap, Dead Presidents, Kicking Giant,
The Teamsters, and Wandering Lucy have all done a stint. They
barnstormed the USA in the summer of '95, playing shows with The Make
Up, Milkmoney and Action Patrol to name a few.
Between '94 and '95, Dub Narcotic Sound System released a series of five
limited edition 45's -- wowing DJ's, showgirls, punk rock shockers, cub
scouts, and purveyers of fine rump shakery everywhere. These were
followed by the fine 5 song "Industrial Breakdown" 12" and CD and the
"Rhythm Record Vol. 1" full length LP. All were released on K.
