Lois Maffeo, known simply as
Lois turned eighteen
the day she arrived in Olympia from her home in Phoenix, Arizona, to attend
the Evergreen State College.
Lois became fascinated by the punk scene in the area, hosting her own KAOS FM
radio show called
Your Dream Girl and writing album reviews for underground
zines. She started doing the occasional performance around town, sometimes singing
a song, other times taking part in performance art.
It was in the mid-eighties that a spur-of-the-moment decision started her career.
Lois had moved to Portland and in her own words, was
"...lonely for Olympia
and I was walking by a guitar shop and there it was - my dream guitar."
Lois began writing songs and a band came together with
Patrick Maley
called
Courtney Love.
Three records down the line, in 1991 they disbanded.
Then came Lois. With different collaborators over each release, no
less than four full length records have been made.
