Mule
The current MULE line-up is: P.W Long (guitar/vocals); Kevin Munro
(bass/vocal); and Jason Kourkonius (drums).
MULE is from Detroit, Michigan
MULE's first gig was in January of 1992, opening for Urge Overkill in
Thunder Bay, Ontario. From that point forward, they toured relentlessly
for the next 18 months. They headlined nearly every gig, playing top bill
in cities like New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco and Los
Angeles; without as much as a 7" single to their credit.
A few support slots happened along the way: MULE warmed up Cop Shoot Cop
in Toronto, Tad in Winnipeg, L-7 in Cincinnati and Pearl Jam in Colorado,
and in the fall of 1993, MULE teamed up with Firehose and Barkmarket on a
west coast tour.
The first incarnation of MULE featured P.W. Long (guitar/vocals); Kevin
Munro (bass/vocals) and James Kimball (drums).
There then started a legacy of drummers...
James Kimball subsequently left MULE to pursue other musical avenues afer
recording MULE's first full length album. James is currently a member of
the Dension/Kimball Trio.
Both James Kimball and Kevin Munro were members of the Laughing
Hyenas.
Kevin Munro's bass stylings can be heard on Laughing Hyenas releases from
the Merry Go Round EP through the Life of Crime LP, all on Touch and Go
Records.
Kevin plays bass for MULE and does some singin'. He has
gambled away 2 of the band's vans during stops in Reno. He swears his
luck's going to change next time.
P.W. Long was in a band called Wig. They recorded: Lying Next to You LP
on Nocturnal Records and "All the Love in the World" 7" single. P.W.
plays guitar and does most of the singin'. He speaks fluent English,
including 3 regional American dialects. He tries to keep his cut fairly
short and he never irons his jeans.
The next man with the sticks was Jacob Wilson. Jacob had been in a band
called Vine. They recorded one 7" single for
Sidekick Records. Jacob joined MULE in time to record the "Wrung" EP and
stuck around right up until "If I Don't Six".
He's very young, so his personality is still developing. His life,
however, is not without accomplishment. He is an avid golfer with a
scratch game and he was the national Amateur Junior flyweight kick boxing
champion of America in 1990.
The present drummer is Jason Kourkonius. He was in a couple of band before
MULE, one of note is
Spavid. They recorded a 7" single for Cash Cow Records and a full length
(out soon on Humble Records) before busting up on tour in Oregon. Although
he is not on the " If I Don't Six" album his life has been full up to this
point. He dose not consider himself funny, clever, or silly. We here think
he's all of those, plus special; as do The
Delta 72 who in losing their drummer convinced Jason to moonlight for
them.
MULE as a trio, consumes two bottles of russian Vodka, a box of moon pies
and a box of Cubans daily.
