Cached is Nudge's third major work, and is markedly their richest and most explorative effort yet. Beginning with the balanced melodies of guitar and vocal that lead off Cached on the song `Classic Mode', Nudge demonstrates a remarkable range and mixture of real time playing and electronic processing. Rhythms flirt with dub reggae or high life patterns while the accretion of electronic textures goes on above and below the melodies and beats. This interlocking of electronic and organic instrumental sounds is what sets Nudge aside from indie-tronic bands devoting themselves to simply gluing twee melodies onto drum machines and synth pads. Cached is an album that harnesses the nervous twitches of IDM to song structure and melody while it diversifies the rhythmic base of rock songs.
