The RAYMOND BRAKE
Tsunami discovered Raymond Brake on tour, playing a show in Carrboro, NC...the
rest is a little bit of history...
We had finished soundchecking and the first band
was plunking its amps and the pawn-shop guitars on stage, when Kristin
recognized the main guitar player. It turned out that Andy had actually
volunteered at Simple Machines assembling hundreds of Working Holiday
7"'s. Now he was going to college in Greensboro and was in the opening
band.
We rushed back from dinner to catch their set. They were
incredible, seeing as how they are 19 and 20 years old, these rockers
learned to play guitar listening to the Polvos, Pitchblendes and
Grifters of the music canon - strange tunings/strange timings - yet at
the same time they aren't afraid of their Top 40 radio roots and they
know melody reigns supreme. the look great, they sound great and write
great songs. More than impressed, we railroaded them into bringing
their demo to breakfast the next day. We listened to it everyday until
it was stolen with Ida's car in Canada.
Raymond Brake now present their second 7inch single - their first was
released on the local Greensboro label, Detox. Fall 1995 sees the
Simple Machines release of their first full-length album recorded by
Geoff Turner at WGNS.
