CACOPHONY marks the long-anticipated return of the band famous
for thier demented and amazingly short bursts of manic music
coupled with decidedly eccentric lyrics and artwork.
Rudimentary Peni originally earned fame as contemporaries of
Crass and were similar in their fierce guitar attack and
strong socially critical lyrics. This album is no departure,
although there has been a bit of fermentation.
"Cacophony" is even more complex and bizarre than
the rest of the Peni's already off-the-wall output.
Grant's bass spins almost out of control as he
grasps at the many bass notes crammed into each
bar. This etheral bass spine is attacked alternately
by Jon Greville's firm, decisive drums and
Nick Blinko's vocal/guitar vomit.

Based heavily upon the life and writings of master horror
writer HP Lovecraft, CACOPHONY is less an album of songs
than it is a full soundtrack to an anarchic play. Each
"act" is inextricably linked to those before and after it,
often by unaccompanied spoken word.
"Rudimentary Peni are the band that fell to earth.
Their extra-terresrial ramblings into the world of
punk thrash are little affected by the doodlings of
contemporaries. In subject matter, approach and
execution they are a million miles from the rest
of the thrash field. Beavering away in bedrooms,
Rudimentary Peni are mad alchemists brewing up a
sound and pouring it straight from their subconcious
into the world. But remember, the introverts scream
the loudest.
