RMSN EP Series - A set of three EPS released over one year (from October 2001 - September 2002). The idea arrived while we were touring in the winter/spring of 2001.... we all wanted something to work on that didn't have the over-thinking and anxiety of a full length, that would motivate us to make songs in ways we normally wouldn't and to have fun. A small but serious pact was made in the van (somewhere between Spokane and Maryland). The rules were : Each band member (Kyle, Jeff, Jason ) would record one solo song per EP. We would make songs quickly and with little preconception... open to whatever ideas arrived in a short time period and document them almost immediately. These would be made without talking to each other about content or style then assembled later. Each EP would be released within a year (10/23/01 - 03/19/02 - 09/10/02 respectively). This would happen while they worked on their next full album together, and some of the EP material would be reworked as band music eventually. The third installment - "Variegated" continues the working method of the EP Series, but breaks a few of the self-imposed rules.... There are four songs this time and it's rumoured that "someone let the cat out of the bag" halfway through finishing the stupousedly secret recording of one song in a fit of anarchy... The series was limited to 1,000 copies per EP which allowed for the packaging to be handmade. Kerri Sancomb and Jeff M. designed, printed, and stitched each copy personally. Then they were assembled by a group of friends and family in Chicago and Louisville (these people are bad asses). EP ONE "Carrier" 1. Horrible Bed Versus Sickening Bridge 2. Paper Lanterns 3. Cock-a-Doodle-Do EP TWO "Sickening Bridge" 1. Haunted on Foot 2. We Start To Drift * 3. Now That Your Diamond-lined Star Is Failing You, What Fair Silhouette Would Best Suit This Satellite. * with guest Chris Higdon EP THREE "Variegated" 1. Dogs 2. Non-Volant * 3. Haymaker 4. You Can't Hide The Mark Inside * with guest Christian Frederickson
