For the uninitiated, Ui is an eclectic Manhattan power trio, compromised of two bassists and a drummer, whose music embraces all manner of low frequencies and intensities, from deep space jazz to dub reggae to funk to big-band-era Talking Heads. The band’s meticulously crafted, insidiously syncopated groove constructions conjured up a throbbing vision of the Meters-as-Brazilian-dub-reggae-band, as Ui debuted spacious, beat-saturated, rhythmically dense instrumental songs from it’s forthcoming 12” EP… |
