Just spent a very enjoyable morning listening to Roxy Music. It got me wondering. I used to know folks who would profess to liking punk and punk only. Not wanting to be a bit odd I kept my liking for Roxy Music and Grace Jones a furtive sectret so as not to lose my punk cred for what it was worth.
So what was your guilty pleasures?
No avant garde jazz allowed.

I've had a long abiding liking for Bruce Springsteen and that sort of Americana. I never particularly cared what people thought of my taste in music; if I like it I listen to it. Nothing at all wrong with avant jazz either when in the right hands. The noteworthy Nels Cline springs to mind on that subject.
Lately, too, I've been discoverinf the talents of great composers like Oliver Messianen, György Ligeti and Morton Feldman. A punky enough mob in their own distinctive ways.

Hahaha!
I got into Led Zeppelin when I was very young and as I got into my teens and into punk I guess it did become something of a guilty pleasure. I also dug bands like Stone Roses, The Cure, Bauhaus, Psych Furs, Depeche Mode, etc... I just kept all that to myself.

ska,
the Top of the Pops albums because the semi naked girls on the cover,
couldnt stand metal or 'prog rock'.
now i listen to anything and Parliament has been booming today on the speakers. Jazz and Dr Alimintado was on yesterday. My most played albums over the last 20 years must be The The albums.

As we're all confessin'.... I listen to lots of old southern soul, classic rock (anything BUT the Who), "outlaw" country and probably my worst secret pleasure is pop/R&B stuff like Rihanna and Kylie. [sound of rotten eggs being thrown at my head]. Oh and I love Roxy Music - heard Both Ends Burning on 6Music this morning and it was ace. Did you see that Roxy doc recently on BBC4?

I have never ever listened to his music but for over fifteen years, I used to do a lot of work for Elton John. My boss used to keep me on a fairly short leash but whenever the opportunity arose, I would always made sure I was wearing a Ramones T-shirt or some other suitably Punk rock T, just to remind him not everyone is a fan.

Elton John was a fan of the Ramones believe it or not. In one of the books about them there's a pic of him visiting them backstage.
