AS OF MARCH 30, SIMPLE MACHINES WILL CLOSE ITS DOORS.

Come Kick Our Bucket With Us. ______________________

Join us and over 25 of your favorite bands for a three-day weekend of fun at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. With staggered stages that will accommodate big bands and small, the music will run continuously every night from 7:00 pm on. But that isn't all. In typical Simple Machines style, it's more than just music. We plan to set up a "store" in the basement stocked with records and CDs, as well as showcasing art, photos and films from friends. This is the last big thing we're doing as a label, so don't miss out!

We have sixteen bands confirmed so far. Since it's still in the planning stages, many bands that we asked are still working on getting to the party.

For the most up-to-date list of bands, go to the Simple Machines website at www.southern.com/southern/label/SMA or call our voicemail at 703/276-0680 and listen to the message.

Either way, **you should email us your snail mail address so we can send you an invite pronto**! Once we get your form and $35 payment, we'll send your passes in the mail. No more waiting in line at the club! Along with your personalized passes you'll get a more detailed schedule, as well as a map and any late-breaking news we have.

Even though the cutoff date isn't until March 10, there are only 400 three-day passes available. Don't be a slouch because these passes are sure to go fast. And you wouldn't want to be caught dead anywhere else....

UPDATE:
As of our March 10th deadline, The Simple Machines Finale is SOLD OUT! In fact, we stretched our 400-pass limit up to 500 based on the flood of responses we got over the weekend thus knocking out the need for Ticketmaster to sell any extra tickets.
Tickets may be available at the door on the night of the shows, but this will be based on room capacity and be judged by the folks at the Black Cat.
Sorry to any of you who wanted to join us. And for those who mailed or faxed in their requests already, the passes are on the way!

The Black Cat:
is an all ages club located in the middle of Washington DC at 14th and S Streets NW. If you're driving to the club, there is plenty of street parking. If you're going to depend on DC's public transportation system, there are many buses that run up and down 14th Street, as well as a Metro stop (DC's subway system) about 5 blocks away at 13th and U Streets.

However, the Metro only runs until 12 am. All the fun won't be over by midnight, so consider a shared cab a practical luxury. Luckily cabs are cheap in DC.

Airports, Trains & Buses:
Dulles International - city is accessible by cab or bus shuttle National (as of today, now called the "Ronald Reagan Airport" Thanks, Congress) - closer than Dulles, accessible by Metro, cab or bus. BWI - about 50 miles north of Washington, DC. Accessible by Metro, Amtrak, cab or shuttle. It's usually cheaper to fly into here. Union Station - DC's gorgeous train station is down on Capitol Hill, Metro and cab accessible. Bus Station - Hey, we don't want to hear any complaints about Greyhound, and Peter Pan even plays movies. The bus station is down near Union Station, a short walk from the Metro.

Hotels:
Hopefully there's a friend or relative nearby with some couch or floorspace, but for those who need a room we did some research for you. While there are a few hotels within walking distance of the club in downtown DC, you'll find the most affordable hotels and motels in suburbs like Bethesda, Silver Spring, Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church. Here's a partial listing of places either near the club, Metro accessible or along a main driving route.

We have heard that this weekend is also the annual Cherry Blossom Festival in DC, so hotel rooms are booking fast. Get on it.

Windsor Inn - 1842 16th Street NW Tel: 202/667-0300 As the regal name suggests, this lovely Bed and Breakfast type hotel is a real charmer and better yet, it's only 2 blocks from the hip hotbed of excitement, and at $70/night it's quite the bargain for downtown DC. The catch to this gem is size; it only has 30 rooms so act fast!

Washington Plaza - 10 Thomas Circle NW Tel: 202/842-1300 Not quite as inexpensive or as cozy as the Windsor Inn but this big hotel located at Vermont and Massachusetts Ave sports a striking 70s mod motif not to be missed. The price, about $90 plus tax/night, is quite reasonable for the luxury of this hotel. A quick cab ride up 14th Street will get you to the Black Cat in minutes.

Harrington Hotel - 436 11th St. NW Tel: 202/628-8140 Located in the heart of DC's federal district, the Harrington Hotel is an old-school no-frills delight. Transportation is easy from here as the Metro Center station is right down the street and buses frequently traverse this area. The diggy-down low is that it will cost you between $74-$84/night. Not too shabby!

American Youth Hostel - 1009 11th St NW (11th &K) Don't know much about it; but it's an option. BEWARE: somewhat sketchy neighborhood.

Highlander Motel - 3336 Wilson Blvd. (Arlington) Tel: 703/524-4300 For those with an aversion to the city, Arlington offers the rather austere Highlander. Just blocks from the Virginia Square Metro Station, the motel is $60 plus tax/night. Make your reservations quickly, this will fill up.

..for those with the a car: Best Western Falls Church Inn - 6633 Arlington Blvd. Tel: 703/532-9000. 2 miles from Ballston Metro/$65 plus tax/night

Econo Lodge - Alexandria/Mount Vernon - 8849 Richmond Hwy. Tel: 800/768-0300. $60 plus tax/night

Obviously, this is only a partial list. DC has a LOT of hotels so dig around and find something you can afford.

Okay, that's the news for now. Mark down your calendars and email us back soon!
