Fortune Cookie Prize
In 1992 we put together a tribute to the band, Beat Happening. At the time,
not a lot of people knew or appreciated what Beat Happening was doing -
stripped down songs with just guitar and drums, with a deep throated Calvin
Johnson squirming and pogoing on stage singing simple songs that were full of
hidden meaning. This, from a band from Olympia, WA, only a few miles from
the grunge capital of Seattle. But the people who did find and listen to Beat
Happening records cherished them so finding bands for this benefit tribute
record was a snap! Cannanes, Geek, Superchunk, Seaweed, Scrawl, Love Child,
Fish & Roses, Leaky Chipmunk (Volcano Suns/Sebadoh), Kim, Thurston & Epic,
Unrest, Whorl and Velocity Girl all did their favorite Beat Happening songs.
100% of the proceeds from the vinyl sales and 80% of the CD proceeds are
being donated to Sasha Bruce House in Washington, DC - over $15,000 to date!
