ARTIST'S STATEMENT
After several years of exhibiting and selling my work
I decided that it was getting nowhere!
I had got into yet another rut, creating "nice pictures" that I thought would sell well.
Anyway, the galleries were taking an awful large percentage, so I began to
question exactly why I was spending my life staring at yet another piece of paper
and not taking any risks. There followed many months of producing not very much at all
when I began to use new media (new to me) and started having fun again.
Currently I am updating the online gallery as new work is completed.
What interests me now are the possibilities of collage/assemblage, textures
colours and more abstract forms.I have been making prints and casting paper
and trying out different media, specially metal leaf which has seemed very
appealing
since my visit to India in Jan 2000.I fell in love with India
Art is part of life, on the walls ,on the steets
even the trucks are decorated. It was refreshing and exciting and shook me up.
After deciding that the way forward was to please myself, I realised
that I really didn't like most of my work and really didnt want it
on my own walls Why should I waste time producing art that
did not excite me? I am producing fewer pieces of art now but I am learning
much more and making new discoveries
which is really what its all about.
